Alone Again, Naturally

hello,

if you have watched Ice Age 2, i believe you are familiar with this song.

the tunes are so beautiful and fun but also melancholic at the same time.

the lyrics on the Ice Age movie were changed to adapt the storyline.

this is the original video and lyrics by Gilbert O’Sullivan.

In a little while from now
If I’m not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower

And climbing to the top
Will throw myself off
In an effort to
Make it clear to whoever
Wants to know what it’s like
When you’re shattered

Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying, My God, that’s tough
She stood him up
No point in us remaining

We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright, and gay
Looking forward to who wouldn’t do
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down

Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about, God in His mercy

Oh, if he really does exist
Why did he desert me
In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that there are more hearts
Broken in the world that can’t be mended
Left unattended
What do we do
What do we do

Alone again, naturally

Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears

And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn’t understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken

Leaving her to start
With a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever [Spoken]
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

i tried to rephrase my feelings towards this song, but failed.

so i’ll just copy and paste some of the YouTube comments i find fit:

I for one, when I am in pain (physical or emotional) need solitude but strangely enough I need comfort so this song is the only song that I can relate to that does that for me. It speaks of pain so personal that it touches every bit of your emotions. -mickavellian

this is rare song that reflects depressive episodes that everyone goes through–and is able to heal them, like a musical serum—-lovely infinite melody/lyrics/singing. -windstorm1000

One of the most genius songs I’ve heard. A depressing message interlaced with a comical and catchy tune. It’s so gloomy but disturbingly addictive! -erinpilla

YouTube’s Autogenerated Playlist

Kenapa gw baru sadar yah?

Saya jadi semangat lagi menggali informasi tentang beliau, alm Munir Said Thalib, yang memang LUAR BIASA. Jangan-jangan beliau sebenarnya manusia setengah-malaikat?!

The Fox and the Little Prince

Reblogged from Blah Blah Blog:

It was then that the fox appeared. "Good morning" said the fox."Good morning" the little prince responded politely
although when he turned around he saw nothing.

"I'm right here" the voice said, "under the apple tree."

"Who are you?" asked the little prince, and added,
"You're very pretty to look at."

"I'm a fox", the fox said.

"Come and play with me," proposed the little prince, "I'm so unhappy."

The Paradoxical Commandments

Yesterday I was almost certain that I have reached the part where I have grown tired of idealistic word and thoughts — idealistic utopia. Because I have almost convinced myself that what matters is the reality.. And the reality is what happens not what should have happened.  In other words, I was tired of thinking ideally…because reality seemed to bite just even harder each day.

But then I read this quote right here…. And I started to believe all over again.

Can we just say that this quote is the mother of all motivational quotes :P

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

The Cage

I think I have said it many times. I love Travis’ album The Invisible Band. I got the album as a gift from my junior high school best friend, Kenny. I love every song in this album. My sotoy mind thought that this album was the one album that truly represented Britpop: falsetto vocal, analogue instruments, romanticized metaphoric lyrics, heartfelt rhythm.

Yesterday I randomly listened to the whole album… Still gives me chill and makes me wanna cry..

Especially this one song: The Cage.
Truly heartbreaking..

You broke the bread
We drank the wine
Your lip was bleedin’ but it was fine
Come on inside, babe, across the line
I love you more than I

But then this bird just flew away
She was never meant to stay
Oh to keep her caged would just delay the spring

You broke your word
Now that’s a lie
We had a deal that you would try
Come on inside, girl, I think it’s time
High time we drew the line

But then this bird just flew away
While I looked the other way
Oh to keep her caged would just delay the spring

Oh you broke my soul
Dear you stole the plot
You left an empty shot
There’s nothing left here ‘cos you took the lot
An empty cage is all I’ve got

‘Cos when your bird has flown away
She was never meant to stay
Oh to keep her caged would just delay the spring
To keep her caged would just delay the spring

Random comment in Youtube said that Travis will have an upcoming album that is set to relelase in 2013. Yes, please. And a gig in Indonesia, please.
